Proton model
Who invented the Proton Model and what is it?
Believe it or not, our friend, Rutherford came up with the Proton Model in 1918. (Remember Him?) In doing so he also discovered the proton, a small positively charged particle. In this model the protons were contained in the nucleus with negatively charged electrons orbiting the nucleus.
How did he discover the Proton?
He discovered the proton when he shot alpha particles at atoms and managed to knock off small positively charged particles. He realized that the particles must have come from the nucleus. He then called them protons.
